I Shut My Eyes

Linocut is a printmaking technique that Kari Kristensen uses to create some of the most abstract art we’ve seen. The project was to take Kari’s art and transfer this onto 604 pairs of shoes. We teamed up with Six Hundred Four to create a spotlight piece on the artist behind the sneakers and told the story through a short form cinematic documentary. We set out to scout Kari’s art studio prior to the shoot and witnessed her process first hand. The first thing we took in was the attention to detail that goes into her artistic process. Not only is her workflow extremely precise, but each piece of art she creates is an emotional journey for her.

We found it fascinating how attached she was to each piece she created, and we wanted audiences to experience this journey with her.

The location itself was full of personality. Everywhere you looked there were interesting items and objects that reflected Kari’s personality so we decided to incorporate this into final piece. When Kari is working, we found a peaceful, creative energy that filled the room, so we decided to utilize a slow moving dolly that added to her mystique.
